The Montgomery Advertiser dropped a “Best of” list for star Whoopi Goldberg who has a small role in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Topping the list was Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple from 1985.
“Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel has the somewhat dubious distinction of being the most Oscar-nominated movie in history to not take home a single gold statue with 11 nominations, including one for Goldberg. She gives the dramatic performance of her career as Celie, a poor woman in the early-1900s South who gives birth to two of her stepfather’s children in her teens — and her life only gets worse from there. It’s a stirring period drama with its suffering firmly rooted in hope, and Goldberg plays a character who truly deserves the happiness she eventually finds.”
On the list was The Lion King, Ghost, Sister Act and Corrina,Corrina.
