‘Under the Dome’ will have a Super Bowl ad to promote the Stephen King, Spielberg project

An advertisement for Under The Dome, a 13-part miniseries based on the epic novel by horror master Stephen King, will debut during the Super Bowl on February 3.

Stephen King Under the Dome bannerThe novel, which revolves around a community cut off from the rest of the world by a giant, literal dome placed over their town (think The Simpsons Movie), is reportedly a rewrite of novels King attempted to write in the late 1970s and early 1980s, under the titles The Cannibals and Under the Dome. King has said that while The Cannibals had a more comedic bent and played the horror more likeNeedful Things, both versions of Under the Dome were more straightforward.

The miniseries, produced by Steven Spielberg, was adapted for the screen by Lost and Y The Last Manwriter Brian K. Vaughan. The series will retain the concept of the book as well as a number of key characters, but will make a number of changes which have reportedly been approved by King. CBS, who will air the series, reportedly are potentially interested in picking it up as a full series rather than a mini if the ratings support it.
