Spielberg tops list for film on Moses – “Gods and Kings”

Warner Bros. is pursuing Steven Spielberg to helm their big budget Biblical film.

The epic entitled “Gods and Kings” has been scripted by Michael Green and Exam film maker Stuart Hazeldine who has also written the upcoming Paradise Lost adaptation for the studio.

“Gods and Kings” is apparently not intended to be a remake of “The Ten Commandments”, that starred the late great Charlton Heston as Moses.

Whether you’re religious or not, almost everyone should be familiar with Moses, the religious leader, lawgiver and prophet known in many religions. “Gods and Kings” is based on the Book of Exodus and other stories from the Old Testament, with a treatment originally by Matti Leshem, who is producing with WB’s Dan Lin. The story will span the entire life of Moses, which includes his awakening to the plight of the Hebrew slaves that led Moses’ struggle against the Pharaoh for their freedom out of Egypt; the Ten Plagues; the Burning Bush; the daring escape across the Red Sea; receiving the Ten Commandments, and delivery to Israel.

Spielberg has numerous films in preparation including “Lincoln” and “Robopocalypse” as well as the soon to be released “The Adventures of Tintin” and “War Horse” but the film making legend is said to be to be taking the project seriously.
