IAMROGUE: The upcoming film Real Steel posits a future just nine years from now in which old-fashioned human boxing has been totally replaced by a robot boxing league, and to be fair, ten foot tall robots pummeling each other does look reasonably fun. A new featurette for the family-ready science fiction underdog story shows off plenty of new footage and includes interviews with star Hugh Jackman and directorShawn Levy. Snippets of Jackman and Levy talking are all well and good, but y’all know you’re here to see combatants rocking and socking with aplomb.
The plucky young son who inspires Hugh Jackman’s washed up boxer is played by newcomer Dakota Goyo, while the lovely Evangeline Lilly plays a non-robotic love-interest. The supporting cast is filled out by Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand, Hope Davis, James Rebhorn, and Phil LaMarr as a robo-boxing commentator.
Like a scrapper fighting his way up from the boxcars, Shawn Levy has directed his way through family features like Cheaper by the Dozen and The Pink Panther up to bigger dare like the Night at the Museum pictures and Date Night. His first sci-fi flavored film is produced by directorial icons Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis.
Real Steal arrives on IMAX and regular sized screens on October 7th.
