MOVIE MORON: Here’s another “Best of” list, which follows Harrison Ford’s role in “Cowboys & Aliens”
The ten best Harrison Ford movies. He’s been voted Empire magazine’s top film star ever. At one point he had starred in three of the five biggest grossing movies of all time. This weekend sees the US release of Cowboys and Aliens and it’s great to see the man return to the kind of summer event movie which was once his trademark. Hell it’s a fine time to look back on the career of the old reliable Ford.
10. What Lies Beneath (2000)
9. Working Girl (1988)
8. Frantic (1988)
7. Air Force One (1987)
6. Jack Ryan films (Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger)
5. Witness (1985)
4. The Fugitive (1993)
3. Star Wars Trilogy
2. Bladerunner (1982)
Ford’s Indiana Jones tops the list, but note that they excluded the more recent “Crystal Skull” film.
Here’s the commentary on their site:
The Indiana Jones trilogy (1981 to 1989)
Thank Magnum P.I., the story goes. Because if it wasn’t for Tom Selleck’s commitment to that Hawaiian detective show, it would have been the moustache man, and not Ford, who picked up the whip of Lucas and Spielberg’s retro adventurer.
Unthinkable now, given how completely Ford made the role of the academic-cum-adventurer his own, and it is worth noting that wretched as the latter-day fourth instalment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, turned out to be, a by-then sexagenarian Ford was still effortlessly charismatic as the character which, even more so than Han Solo, seems likely to define his career.
