Spielberg still pondering ‘Jurassic Park 4’

Steven Spielberg, the director of the first two Jurassic Park films, and an executive producer of the third instalment, is keen on bringing back the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park 4. Industry sources state that Spielberg has been brainstorming with writer Mark Protosevich to develop the storyline for the next Jurassic Park movie. Several years ago, Spielberg and Protosevich were working together on a remake of Chan-wook Park’s Oldboy, which was to star Will Smith. But the project met with many obstacles, and was finally shelved.

The Jurassic Park movies were inspired by writer Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel on dinosaurs. The last movie in this franchise, Jurassic Park III, was directed by Joe Johnston based on a script written by Peter Buchman, Jim Taylor and Alexander Payne, and released in 2001. The first two movies (Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park) grossed USD 915 million and USD 619 million respectively worldwide. However, Jurassic Park III was an average grosser and only showed returns of USD 369 million.

Currently, Steven Spielberg is all set to launch the television series ‘Terra Nova’, besides doing everything to bring the dinosaurs back to big screens.
